Hooked for Life
I started my journey with crochet in 2019. Although, years ago my mom had tried in vain to teach me this skill, I just couldn’t for the life of me, understand the basics of it. In 2019, inspired by my colleague and now friend Annette, I decided to take it up as a challenge and taught myself how to crochet. From then on started my love for the craft. With the covid situation and lock-down, I discovered the joys of Netflix and Crochet and was hooked.
At one point my husband was concerned if I needed some help after witnessing the intensity of my addiction. It was as if I was possessed. I had truly found my ikigai and couldn’t have been happier. It also helped that I had a bunch of friends(an awesome group of ladies) who encouraged me to get better by offering to wear the items I created. Additional to all this crochet has been also been very therapeutic for me. There is nothing better than having to learn a new pattern to take your mind off any kind of stress.
As they say too much of anything is not good and the downside of it all was that I grew a lot heavier while my bank balance started getting lighter. Those beautiful yarns aren’t cheap y’all. In fact, this year, I have realized that I have accumulated so much yarn by 2022 that I had to buy more furniture to store it. Hence my resolution for 2023, not buy yarn anymore until I use up all the yarn that I have now. I am sure all the expert crochet(ers?) out there are laughing out loud at the above statement.
So here’s to giving a shout out to all the crochet gurus out there who I have been following diligently and who have been part of my crochet journey and have helped me become better at it. Thank you, for all your hard work and beautiful designs. Here are some of my favorite ones from the crochet world.
One of the first Instagram accounts that inspired me was @poppyandbliss. The pictures were simply so beautiful and colorful that I was instantly inspired to start crocheting.
